Special thank you to one of my hockey sibs, who alerted me to this little gem.

Oh, sports! I think I need to make a pilgrimage to this NYC sports bar, because -- well, just because. If anyone doesn't think there is much hidden subtext in sports, check this out -- though if you don't know hockey, it won't be nearly as funny. For those of you who do though... XD

"Even in the unisex bathroom, a photograph depicts the retired hockey players Brendan Shanahan and Steve Yzerman costumed as Batman and Robin on Halloween."

I have included the full article under the link cut.

Since some of my LotR sibs might not have seen this:

For my hockey sibs who live in Michigan:

Any time a Red Wings player scores a hat trick, bring a copy of the box score to Arby's and receive a free order of curly fries.

Henrik Zetterberg scored one tonight, so go get your free curly fries tomorrow (Sunday, 11/15).

-- I heard this second-hand so you'd better double-check to be sure. But it sounds accurate.

Because there are so many nurses and other health-care people on my list, I thought this would be interesting. [And also for those who write, and might be interested in odd, severe injuries.]

I am not happy, nuh-uh. When I saw the OT goalie stats though, I kinda figured what would happen. Gotta admit Jiggy is one talented playoff goalie (12-1) while Dom is just ok (15-14). Talk about interesting stats... I just hope that... well, I'm pretty sure you all know my opinions on the subject. (The Ducks are from LA -- ok, ok *Anaheim* -- but that's still LA Metro, y'know.) But worst of all is that there will be no more games on NBC until Game 3 of the Finals!! Even though Game 1 should be shown because it's on a Saturday!! Grrrrrrr!!!! This tv deal does not favor the fans though to give NBC credit they did show all of today's OT plus some post-game talk. (Yes, I know--too bad it couldn't have been like that yesterday as well. I dunno--maybe the hockey people decided to complain about yesterday? We can only hope.)

There is a very slim possibility that I might get some stuff sold, which would be *wonderful*! Especially since my cash-flow is pretty weak right now. Damn but there have been some horrendous bills to get settled. Yikes and YIKES!!!!! ==(( I'm finally seeing an end to it though, so maybe someday I will be not quite as broke as I am right now.

Tomorrow I call Snow's (car repair) to find out what went wrong w/the car. I really wish I had been able to get Sam Sr. on the phone, 'cause I don't think it was anything major just something minor like a filter. But what do I know about cars? (You turn the key, the engine starts and makes the wheels turn. That's about the sum of it. Oh yeah, and I also know how to put in gas, check oil, water and tranny fluid and the air in the tires. Hey, it's something.) Shockey asked me why I didn't call someone to help push it home and I pointed out that *everyone* works and that *no-one* is home during the day... there is no choice but to call a shop. And I just know the mileage bill is probably going to be the real bitch. *SIGH*

No other news. I am off to sleep now. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day.

No car, which is a pain and damned awkward. Walked down to get mail which is good for my health and all but not so good when I need to do some serious grocery shopping. Maybe if I buy a wagon? Hell, I know there used to be wagons around when I was a kid but they probably all disappeared *if* Mom didn't decide to "loan" them to someone. Of course if they weren't loaned they would have been stolen, so it's kind of the same thing. At least LeeAnn enjoys her walkies. ;)

The Buffalo/Ottawa game did not turn out as I had hoped. Damn. I watched it too; well at least until they finished regulation and then cut away to the Preakness. All I can think of is: Yeah, no wonder hockey doesn't have a bigger following in the US. Why the hell NBC had to carry the playoffs *and* the Triple Crown I will never know. If only some other network was carrying the Triple Crown... but then they would have cut away from the OT to show some golf or poker tournament. Tomorrow... I just hope that tomorrow's game doesn't go into OT. If it does, I will be seriously pissed. The bad thing is the Hastings cable company carries Versus but this one doesn't, not even with their upgrade package. However...

I wake up this morning and what do I hear? Mario. Le Magnifique. It sounds pretty definite that Mario will be retiring, this time for good. I can't help but feel bad because... oh, I dunno... I can't say that I'm a super-fan of his but I was really hoping that he could reach 700. But the health issues he has now (and in the past), in addition to the fact that the Pens are not doing well (gee, do ya think that might qualify as the understatement of the year?) and all of the other issues the Pens organization is having w/the city of Pittsburgh--I guess it was just too much. I wish he could have gone after reaching, say, 700 and end on a more positive note. This time he won't be coming back to play. A lot of the sports pundits are saying if he had been able to play in *this* version of the N, and at his healthiest, that he would be greater than Gretz. Of course, I've heard people debate Gretz's and Mario's stats before and they seem to agree that had Mario stayed healthy, Gretz would have had a real challenger. True, Mario had the advantage of height and arguably strength and meanness but I dunno. (To the pundits, it's all about size, speed and strength. They seem to forget a little thing called "heart".) To me, Gretz is the "perfect" size for a player--6'0, 185-ish... gee, sounds like another player, doesn't it? No, I don't necessarily mean Sid-the-Kid, though he does fit the mold but rather Stevie Y, who often gets overlooked. His numbers were excellent but he was playing at the same time as Gretz and Mario were at their peak and thus was overshadowed. Not that it's bothered Stevie any; in fact, he's got avoiding the press down to an art. So, an era is slowly ending and a new one ready to start. Hull, Mess, Mario... I'm sure there will be more retiring as the year wears on. *SIGH* I will never forgive Moron and Idiot for bringing this about. Never! No season indeed! They will pay--eventually but they *will* pay.
