The weather was just gorgeous. Nice and warm-ish and just plain yummy. Tomorrow should be much like it, so perhaps I will do laundry (or not, as the case may be.) Still busy with house-cleaning and sorting through clothes (and trying said clothes on, gah) and shredding old papers and just trying to get everything set up for winter. I was hoping to be done with this stuff before Halloween but there is only so much I can deal with at a time plus I managed to pull something in my back (I think. Who knows? ::cynical::)

I went to see Thor 2 this afternoon. It was at the "other" theatre, the one that gives me the creeps at night. (Sadly, it never used to but now I won't go alone unless it's day.) I went to the earliest possible showing (2D). There were only about 50 people there (it seats 250) but today there was a Nationally Televised College Football Game (starting about 2 pm, plus other school-related stuff of the non-college/university variety.)

So, the movie. It was good and I had fun. Not great maybe but still. I do love to see movies in the theatre if at all possible because that's how they were filmed and meant to be shown. (Yes, I am something of a snob that way. Though I definitely appreciate the convenience of being able to see things at home. :) I will probably go again and hopefully see it in 3D -- or not. It all depends. It's definitely worth seeing once. And maybe later on I will critique a bit but not right now because I am just too tired.

Niters all!

PS. It's just over a month until "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" opens in theatres! :D

And the movie selection is (of course):
The Wicker Man

I found this interview with Mr. Lee to be fascinating. Hope you enjoy it too.

Ok, basically this *will not* be about anything that has already been covered in world/national news -- except for weather. Weather is one of my favorite topics (as you can tell by the tags, lol.)

Last Sunday I decided to go and see Jurassic Park in 3D, just because. It was a lot of fun too. I also noticed there was a movie called "42" playing, and I was wondering how I had missed learning about anything connected to 'Hitchhiker's Guide'. Of course, when I asked what it was about, *then* I learned it was a biopic of Jackie Robinson. ::facepalm:: In my defense, I would like to say that I seldom pay attention to sports movies unless they are about horse racing (Seabiscuit, Secretariat) or hockey (Slapshot, Miracle) and since I no longer have cable, this one slipped by me.

It was *gorgeous* outside today, simply *gorgeous*! ::dreamy sigh:: So of course I went in to Hastings to stock up on food since they are still predicting a bad storm for Wednesday to last through... however long, IDK.

I also went to see "Avatar" because I have no idea if I will get another chance to see it if the weather turns bad. I am a wimp when it comes to bad weather in the winter. I did enjoy it a lot; I am not sure if it will be as revolutionary as they claim, though I can appreciate the jump forward in technology. More than that I will not say for fear of spoiling someone who hasn't seen it.

Tomorrow I might go and visit Auntie and Uncle if the weather holds up enough. We'll see. I'm not that keen on going but I should stop by since I doubt if I get up there if I don't make time now. *sigh*

No other news for now. I may or may not make an early night of it.

Since some of my LotR sibs might not have seen this:

This courtesy of Writer's Block:

It's blockbuster season in movie theaters. What was the last movie you saw?

My original answer was going to be "The Dark Knight" but I checked my movie stubs and the movies I have seen so far this year are: "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans", "Defiance", "Slumdog Millionaire", and "X-Men Origins: Wolverine". So I guess my answer is: "Wolverine."

I have *planned* to see "Star Trek", "Night at the Museum 2" and... a couple of others, but I forget what they were right now. :( I really did plan to see them but there were a bunch of unexpected expenses so I had to cut down on them. Plus, the local museum has been showing (current titles just before they leave to be released on dvd/blu-ray) tweeny-oriented movies, so that cut down even farther on my options. Hopefully something good will turn up *soon*.

Ok, time to eat a few cough drops. Back later.

About Today

Not a whole lot new. Went back to Hastings to stock up on groceries again -- they have some hella good deals at one store (*not* the EvilEmpire btw), I got a lot of canned goods for about half of what they would cost regularly, so that was all good. Label names too, they were actually cheaper than the store brand was (believe me, I check the expiration date and comparison shop like crazy before buying oh yeah.) Prices are high here like you would not believe. I don't need to buy very much more now, which is good though I will probably go in anyway and get a few more things.

And of course afterwards, I decided to go to a movie. Today's choice was "Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans" which was good fun. I considered "Taken" and "Gran Torino" but after seeing "Defiance" last weekend, I needed something not real life (having my very own mini-marathon of "Das Boot", "Battleship Potemkin", "K-19: The Widowmaker" were not exactly the right things to watch in order to relax either. Why do I do this to myself?) And "Lycans" was good -- as you know by now, I have a fondness for most vampires and werewolves and other were-creatures -- as long as they don't *sparkle*. Yes, ok, shutting up now.

No other news to speak of, I guess.

Well, it was a really nice day out today and it's supposed to be nice again tomorrow. Went to see the lawyer, there went more $$$ oh joy. Got a flu shot on Monday, decided I might as well if I'm going to have to be dealing with this sort of nonsense this winter-next spring. Feh.

The new cinema in Kearney is going to be have a midnight show for "Rocky Horror" Friday and Saturday; the Grand Theatre in GI is going to hold a special live performance of "The War of The Worlds" on Friday and the Hastings Museum is going to be showing "The Dark Knight" on the next few nights *and* Sunday afternoon was well. Does anyone care to guess what I'll be doing the next few nights? XD [It's always feast or famine isn't it?]

Niters! See you later on -- have a safe and Happy Halloween!

After all the moving and hauling I've been doing, I stayed home and napped. The furkids are most pleased by my improved behavior. For lunch I made chili! :) and chowed down like crazy on it. Damn but I didn't realise just how hungry I was for chili. Fortunately I have enough for a few more meals -- and now that I am out of crackers to use with it, I will make cornbread. I should have made it today but I didn't feel like firing up the stove just for cornbread. Maybe I can figure out a few more things to bake when I make it -- sounds like a plan, right?

I've been seeing a lot of tributes for Paul Newman, and sadly, very few mention "Slap Shot" except in the most general of terms. Pity, because 'Reggie Dunlop' is really one of his best performances *ever*, to say nothing of being one of the few movies that gets the hockey world *right*. Of course, it's not very PC but since when did we ever live in a PC world? If you haven't seen it, you really should because... well, how about just because? Sounds good to me!

Btw, to all of my hockey sibs: what is your favorite Reggie scene/quote?

Reggie Dunlop: [looks at the Hanson brothers] Ok guys. Show us what you got.

Ok, so it may not be my *absolute* favorite but it's definitely up there.

In yet another attempt to get in a better mood, here are some movie-related questions. I might crosspost this to some of my movie comms later on.
