Today's News and Weather Report
Apr. 4th, 2009 10:03 pmIt's cold today. Damned cold. It was windy all day but not too bad until we had a thunderstorm about 4 pm. The wind is howling outside now, with gusts around 40 mph and (of course) lots of power outages around the area. Naturally, my migraines are back and I feel rotten. And cold, and just... meh. Oh even better news just now on the tv -- wind gusts up to *60* mph are now predicted. Lovely.
Mt trusty vcr finally went bad. :( With luck I can get into it and clean it well enough to keep using it, I don't know. I was hoping that it would hang on a little bit longer because (a) I can't stand to watch the dvds on tv without audio and (b) dvds are being phased out and everything is changing over to blu-ray. I don't want to buy blu-ray because (a) a blu-ray player will probably have the same snag as the dvd player, meaning no audio and (b) I don't want to buy a new tv set when the one I have works fine and (c) it won't take long for blu-ray to be phased out the same way vcrs were and dvds are. [My dvd player is fine, old (5 yrs.) but even so, I can't get the audio back. Feh.] I suppose the next step will be to go to dl, and I may as well wait until that technology is ready and just save myself the grief of seeing that happen.
Off to watch tv and do some channel surfing.

Date: 2009-04-05 11:44 am (UTC)Hope your weather improves - we have sun here. We have had hardly any sun for the past couple of years so it is very welcome.
Hope your migraine goes quickly.

Date: 2009-04-05 10:23 pm (UTC)I went through a very similar situation and thought process with the TV-DVD-blu-ray thing. My brother bought me small inexpensive speakers for the TV. When my old DVD player broke, I bought a Coby from Target for $40.

I'm sure it's more than you want to spend. I decided to go for the cheap DVD player for now. At some point in the future I'll get a TV with blu-ray but this works out fine. I also have a basic cable TV subscription.
It's not as comfortable to sit at my computer but I do watch some things online. My cable supplier offers shows On Demand and Netflix has a "watch it now" option. I have never checked into either one cost-wise.
It's hard to be home a lot without electronic entertainment so I hope your problem is resolved soon.

Date: 2009-04-05 10:40 pm (UTC)I'm hoping that once I get moved, I can find someone to actually help me hook things up. As it is, I have way too much stuff and not nearly enough know-how to make it work.
Watching things of the computer isn't bad except that my cats keep investigating any picture movement on it; keeping them pried away from the laptop is pretty distracting when trying to watch a movie.
I have basic cable as well but I am thinking of dropping it since I don't watch tv that much anymore, especially when most eps can be watched online a day later -- or will be out on dvd once the season is over.
