Well, as you all know by now I survived the auction and all the family visiting that goes along with it. Fun, but sad all the same -- and very tiring as well.

Due to the large amount of *old* family photos, I am planning to scan them and set up a photobucket or maybe flickr account. Does anyone have any ideas, suggestions or preferences as to which of these is preferable? I know a lot of you have such accounts already, which is why I am asking.

I am tired so I will probably go to bed early.

I don't have a problem with Photobucket. I have never used flickr.

I've been using Photobucket for a few years now (have a free account from way back with a decent amount of bandwith) and it meets my needs fairly well. Easy uploads, plus you can customize the look of your virtual albums. And there are free tools built-in to the site should you wish to get creative with your pics. The only problems I've faced were with a few random "stalkers" on my LJ who TOS-sed a couple of humorous (and harmless) pictures I had placed in unprotected entries.

I know of several photographers who use Flickr for their professional portfolios and swear by it, though I have never used it. YMMV.

One other option you might wish to look into is upgrading your LJ to a Paid account, which enables the Scrapbook feature with 2GB of picture/video storage (not to mention few bandwidth issues). Only thing is it's not all that customizable, and LJ tends to re-size larger images so that you need to click several times through to see the whole thing.

Due to the serrious money crunch, I can only afford free things. Maybe someday...

Considering they're old family photos, I'd consider doing both as added security for them. The original photos can fade, get lost or destroyed - this way you'll have backup. Open two accounts just for that and give the links out to the family.

I use Photobucket and it does the job. I once used this site (I can't remember the name) and uploaded loads of pics and literally the next week it wasn't there :/ But photobucket has been around for years so you should be fine. Can't wait to see your photos. I'm glad the auction is over. I know it must have been draining :/ Do something nice for yourself!
