Today's News and Weather Report Redux

la_samtyrToday I actually got quite a bit done. Got a couple of bills paid, went to the auction preview and talked to family, went to lawyer, got my hair trimmed a bit (should have gotten more of a cut, maybe another time), got a few groceries, then visited w/aunt and uncle, and last of all, went out to eat at Hunan's w/Carol, Paul, and Paul II (which is why you should never name a child Junior, unless you are prepared to call said child Junior forever). It started snowing just as we went in to eat and when we came out, there was quite a lot on the ground, maybe two inches or so. So I came straight home instead of hanging out longer with them as I had intended. It's still snowing too.
So. About family...
Met up with Uncle Joe, Jim (from LA) and his new girlfriend (sadly, I did not catch her name. I will make sure of it tomorrow though.) She seems nice and in one of those weird twists that seem to occur regularly in my family, she is Catholic -- in fact, Jim is taking instructions; and they have both been married before. Huh. {I should say here that my family is about even between Catholic/Protestant -- there seems to be no real difference unless they actually tell you specifically -- mostly to make sure that you don't serve meat on Friday during Lent and help them find the nearest church so they don't miss Mass.] She seems very devout and serious and was very happy to see a bunch of First Communion pics, along w/pics of priests in the family stuff that had been pulled and put in a separate room for the family to go through.
{Note: It just makes me wonder where I fit in exactly, as I *ahem* "follow the rules" just enough to keep the family from freaking out about my "religious life." I think most of you already have a good idea of that already. My religious views tend to be somewhat atypical, to put it mildly.}
Had Jim been alone, I would have asked him about his views about Prop 8. Now though, it's far too loaded an issue, and I sure as hell don't want to be accused of starting a "new" family feud. [There's time enough for that later.]
Interesting, Paul Sr. made a joke about me being a Heath fan and I'm just all 'wtf'? How did he *guess*? I tell ya, the man is wicked smart and that guess was just a little bit freaky because we hadn't discussed anything, just talking in the most general of terms about movies. Even weirder, Paul Sr. is about the least knowledgeable person *ever* when it comes to things like pop culture. Yes, I mentioned the midnight matinee and the cosplay and that I saw it several times, but how did he know about Joker?? and to mention HL by name??? He was just a bit to canny when he mentioned it and then grinned. ::boggles:: I wonder if he's been sneaking onto his son's phazebook to look at me, where I have posted many *many* links about Oscar #81. He asked me if I knew all the Joker's lines and I said I could quote all of the dialog if he wanted to but he laughed and said no. Darn! and I was all set to go "why so serious?" but the waitress had a full pitcher of water and I didn't want to end up with a shower. Oh well, maybe tomorrow...
Ok, so I am off to go to bed, as I have to be up early -- like 6am.
