The weather was a lot nicer than it has been for over a week so I went to Hastings to run some overdue errands.

First of all, I went and got my new glasses. I have to admit I really like them -- especially the frames; I think they are the best fit in *cough* many years *cough*. Of course I am still getting used to them and they might need some adjusting but if today is any indication, there should be little problem.

Second, I got my desktop back. I have been using my laptop for almost 3 weeks, so it is quite a relief to have my 'work horse' back. Unfortunately there are still a few glitches (worst is that I had to abandon my aol/aim email because it is just simply unreadable. *sighs* And I can't get into my files stored there either -- although my laptop has no trouble with it so far.) The monitor is being goofy too when I first log on. But right now I have neither time nor money to take it back, so I will just have to deal.

Last but hardly least, I got a quick haircut. I mostly got the ends trimmed up; I loathe having split ends. I might go back just before Christmas for a serious style change because my hair is at a very awkward stage.

But there is less happy news as well. Several stores are going out of business in Hastings and two of them are (or rather were) my mainstays. One was the local Radio Shack though they might have just moved. I have the feeling they simply closed since I vaguely remember reading an article earlier this year (?) about RS closing a large number of stores. I always had good luck getting things there and they were always super-nice and helpful. I'm really going to miss them.

The other store closing is the local used book store. In this case, the owners are going "officially" retire (both are 70+) and may (or may not) move. They were hopeful that someone would buy the business and keep it going but no luck. :( I blame the proliferation of e-books etc. for this even though I do understand the appeal. But the reality is that for every e-book sold, it's another loss for a local brick and mortar store. And I am very much for keeping as many local businesses alive as possible. So a lot of times I buy at a local shop/store even if they are a bit higher than the Evil Empire.

Tomorrow is supposed to be another nice day, so I am going to bed early again. I have a lot I hope to accomplish!
