At Least I Got The State Right (I Think!)
Jun. 30th, 2008 11:07 pmSo, still no word from My Cousin Donna(tm). Also, it sounds like some of the overseas cousins *might* show up -- or not -- my auntie wasn't sure. Gah! Why she refuses to get a hearing aide -- I mean, she didn't mind getting glasses or dentures or having hip replacement surgery... but to actually be able to hear and get things right? Otoh, that's probably *why* she doesn't get one -- so that she can hear what she wants or *thinks* (and this is someone who has never *ever* been wrong even once in her life!! gah!!!) so that she can say who knows what and then have a ready-made excuse when the feuding starts. *SIGH*
And now to show my ignorance. (All of my CA sibs can start laughing now.) In other news, one of my LA cousins is moving "somewhere" in The Valley. She called to tell me this, and naturally the connection was wonky (in other words, I was being distracted by furkids) and I didn't catch exactly where she meant.
Her: ... The Valley.
me: Oh? That's cool.
Her: yadda yadda yadda
me: But isn't that a big move? And a big change?
Her: Not so far... yadda yadda...
me: Well I hope you are going to like it up there.
Her: (pause) Up *where*?
me: Napa. You're moving to the Napa valley aren't you?
Her: Erm, no. I'm moving ... The Valley.
me: Oh. The Valley. (still being incredibly clueless) But isn't that still a long way to move? Aren't you worried about the fires?
Her: Just where do you think I'm moving to?
me: The San Joaquin?
I then receive a detailed explanation of just what The Valley (San Fernando) is in relation to LA. Oh well, at least I did prove I have a rudimentary knowlege of CA geography. (My CA sibs can now pick themselves off the floor, and I hope you didn't break a rib from laughing so hard.)
Ok time for me to go. Niters all!
