Playing Catch-Up

I haven't made a proper post for... oh, way too long. First I went to Auntie's b'day party and was gone -- only to discover by the time I got back, that el J was down -- and remained down for way too long. Then I got sidetracked with writing (or trying to) and then it was time to take this in and get the new 'safety' program installed. So anyway, here goes. And under a cut as usual because you all know how much I can ramble on. ;)
~~Auntie Lee's 101st Birthday~~
I went down the day before so I could be able to visit with her and the other cousins when it was a little less hectic. (For now, just remember that all the people listed are cousins *somehow*, ok?) Kristy and Eddie drove up from AL, and daughters Amanda and Nicki drove up separately (also from AL, and both in college) so there was a *small* cookout of only 35 people at the house, lol. Lyn was already there and she did a lot of food prep ahead of time, which was nice. I was in charge of talking to Auntie, while LeeAnn was busy being petted and made much of, for she was being charming in that way only toy breeds have. Etta came over as well, and we had a chance to talk. (And may I just say for the record that my aunt has been very blessed in that all of the various in-laws and ex-spouses actually get along -- or at least they avoid major arguments and drama in front of her.)
The next day (Saturday) was the party, and there were probably an easy 100 people there if not more. I lost track after awhile. It was fun and the present she got was a new 31" HD tv which made her very happy indeed. EJ called from overseas, which was nice and luckily she could actually hear him. But after we returned home, Auntie was very tired -- over-tired, really. Next year the party will have to be scaled back considerably, I think.
Sunday was very quiet and Auntie napped most of the time. Lyn and I went to get a decent brush for LeeAnn (Lyn has a Maltese and a spaniel, so she had a good idea of what to get. Lyn also got LeeAnn a new harness and leash; she is very stylish now. :) Perhaps unsurprisingly, Lyn and I are actually getting along well now. She wants me to to visit her in CA but I don't think I will ever travel again. (Just going to Omaha is a Big Deal.)
Monday I drove back, and that night the cats finally came out of hiding. They were very annoyed that I had left them alone, and taken the dog! Such a thing had never happened before! They did not know what to make of it, and I got the stink-eye for two days afterward. ::shakes head:: But all was eventually forgiven (gooshy food is a great help in that department) and things are more or less back to normal.
~~el-J and Dw~~
To be honest, I will probably be moving over there because face it, el-J has gone down twice and I have the feeling it won't be long until it happens again. Just sayin', y'know? I'll still be around here but I just do not have the energy to deal with the DDoS issues that have cropped up and I am not fooling myself into thinking that this is resolved and will only happen *ocassionally* (sic). If you want me, I'm easy to find: la_samtyr and my profile is the same as this one.
~~Other Stuff~~
LeeAnn had to go to the vet last Friday for a dental visit. She had a bad abcess (sic) on her gum, and she also got her teeth cleaned at the same time.
Roofing continues, slow but sure. I only hope it will be finished, and *soon*.
The heat has pretty well killed all of my veggie plants, so that was something of a waste. Maybe next year? Who knows? It didn't help that the outside faucet is messed up and that I had to haul buckets of water from the house. Believe me, the plants needed much more water than I could carry alone. Feh.
Writing continues. I have a couple of projects I am working on; hopefully dealing with deadlines will help with motivation -- or not. We'll see, I guess.
No other news for now -- back later on.

Date: 2011-08-05 08:55 am (UTC)I am with you on the LJ issues man. If it is a site which is more than social networking and can be used for other purposes political, they should beef it up and protect it against possible attacks. I know it will happen again and two weeks paid time extended doesn't really do me any good.
Welcome back to posting!

Date: 2011-08-05 02:06 pm (UTC)My poor kittehs have finally forgiven me though they have been keeping a very close eye on me, lol! They do not forget, oh no! [vbeg]
I hope elJ gets things straightened out soon. I can appreciate the problems they face but honestly, they should anticipate such things ahead of time.
*hugs*
