I took my oldest kitteh, Lucky to the vet today. She's been a little "off', nothing really definite because at 16, she's old for a cat. Anyway, I went in *really* early, so that I could miss the worst of the heat (my car has no a/c, of course) and get back home quick before she got too stressed from everything.
Vet visit details under the cut.
I talked with the vet (a 'new' one, or at least one I hadn't met before, and who had a great manner btw) about her symptoms and her behavior. He thought she might have hyperthyroidism or perhaps kidney disease. He gave her her rabies/parvo etc. shots, and did a blood draw to check. Sure enough, her kidney "markers" are slightly off but within the 'easily treatable' range where she will need pills. I was already home by the time they called, so I will go in again tomorrow to get the meds, and a new type of dry food that might be better for her. Luckily, I have enough left of the old brand to mix with the new brand so that it won't be too much of a change for her and upset her tummy. (Also, I will be trying to change her wet food to a new one that will be better.)
She also has ear mites, so now I have drops to give her for the next few days as well as the other two cats. It looks like a dental cleaning is needed in a few months (or before winter anyway) as some of her teeth are in bad shape.
Ok, that's all for now. Back later.
