All About Today -- and Yesterday

la_samtyrYesterday and today are (were) full of unexpected spring cleaning in the form of clearing out the deep freeze. It all started last week...
Cut because, yes, it's that long and involved.
Last weekend I noticed that there was a little bit of water along the threshold to the outer door. Since my porch is overcrowded, and the cats have been inside quite a bit of the time, I figured that one of them was being naughty and peeing where they shouldn't. Because despite several litter boxes, the porch cats are all toms and there are always territorial issues with toms, and so... yeah. So I put some newspaper down to soak up the wet, and thought that would be the end of it.
It wasn't. The floor was still wet and on investigating further, I noticed that it seemed to be coming from about 3 ft. away -- right next to the deep freeze. But did I think to check the deep freeze? No, because it was partially blocked off by a large heavy shelf that needed to go in the basement and didn't because the weather turned cold before I could move it. But there was a small open space right next to it, and I figured that was where the cats had started peeing. So I threw some cedar shavings down and around, which helped.
But on further moving stuff around and investigating, I discovered that the cats wild leaping and tearing around had partially unplugged the deep freeze -- which was the real source of the water. *sighs*
So I have been cleaning out the deep freeze (not very hard, since the damn thing was totally defrosted by the eedjit cats) and just trying to get things cleaned up. The stuff that was in there was old anyway but I didn't want to throw it out just yet, or at least not all at once.
