Oh, lol no - it was not on stage; we had to watch it in school for our exams. he was very young, and Judi Dench was Lady MacBeth. It was an amazing performance.
It is yes, ( I just looked and it was made in 1978) But it's not a lavish set - it's a stage performance made into a film. There's virtually no set or props, modern clothes and the emphasis is entirely on the acting, which is superb. So it looks really bare-bones compared with the usual productions of Shakespeare. I found though, that there were no distractions, and I concentrated entirely on the characters, which was probably what we were supposed to do for the exams.
