Music Meme
Feb. 15th, 2010 07:02 pmYes, another one. Again, it's a place keeper because I need a nap. [Meaning I'll be doing this later on.]
List your top ten fave albums that you must have at all times!
Note: My list will begin under the cut, so if there's a cut, you'll know it's done. :)
10. "Thriller" -- Michael Jackson
I thought a long time before deciding on this one, and I finally added it because I prefer to remember him as he was before all of the weirdness took over.
9. "The Ramones" -- The Ramones
This is (arguably) the first and (imho) the greatest of all punk albums by the greatest punk band. Period.
8. "Broken English" -- Marianne Faithfull
I love this so much, mostly because of the songs are so 'real' to me: "The Ballad of Lucy Jordan", "Working Class Hero" and "Why D'Ya Do It?" If you get a chance to listen to it, please remember that this album is definitely NSFW.
7. "Pink Moon" -- Nick Drake
I know I had this album at one point; in fact, I'm sure I had all three of Nick Drake's albums but they disappeared and this is the only one I managed to hang on to for a long time. Sadly though, this one has 'vanished' as well.
6. "The Complete Recordings" -- Robert Johnson
I included this one since he played such a large influence on so many of the Sixties rock bands, especially the British ones. Though once again, I could have listed so many others, all equally valid choices. Btw, this is the only box set on the list.
5. "Pearl" -- Janis Joplin
Janis resonates with me in a way no other singer ever has; probably because I come from a similar background and had very similar experiences growing up, especially in high school.
4. "Beggar's Banquet" -- Rolling Stones
Not only is this great, it is also the first album Donna ever gave me as a Christmas present.
3. "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs" -- Derek and the Dominoes
I included this in large part because of Duane Allman.
2. "The River" -- Bruce Springsteen
Again, it was almost impossible to decide on just one album, so the decider was "Hungry Heart", which was originally written for The Ramones.
1. "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" -- The Beatles
Now after reading my Beatles meme, you should have expected this to turn up. It was hard deciding between this and the "The Beatles" (aka "The White Album") though. I should have made it a tie, but then I would have had to make all of them ties to be fair.
I could have easily doubled this list and still not have included all of my must-haves. Most of them are older for a reason -- I have a severe hearing loss and these songs are often the ones I remember best. Most newer songs are just too hard for me to understand or have weird pitches and tones that give me a headache.

Date: 2010-02-16 11:34 pm (UTC)I can't think of any others. I like so many of their songs that I'd be here all night listing them. The Beatles are great.
