The Vet Visit
Dec. 24th, 2005 09:12 pmLeeAnn got sick last night. Nothing too major, just a lot of shivering and being "off", for lack of a better term. She wouldn't lie down near me or anything and just whimpered and moaned a little. When Bidd tried to get a game of "chase me" going, LeeAnn totally ignored her. Most definitely *not* normal behavior! Of course I called the vet right away (about midnight; I'm sure he was happy to be woken up at his home, poor man) and he said as long as there was no bleeding/diarrhea/vomiting, to bring her in this morning. So I hauled myself out of bed *early* and drove to Aurora. He decided it was probably just a tummyache, but he gave her a shot of antibiotic to be safe and some liquid charcoal to help her stomach. Poor little thing just screamed when he gave her the shot and *really* yipped when he gave her the charcoal w/a syringe. Her temp was normal though and so now I am supposed to give her a 1/4 tsp. of cooking oil over her dry food once a day. He was right, cause as soon as I got her out of the exam room, she perked up and I stayed in Aurora for about an hour to make sure she *was* ok. Happily, she improved rapidly and she's back to her old self again. I'm so relieved! It's so hard to see her sick 'cause she's usually so lively. Even though she is a little drama queen, I didn't want to take any risks right at Christmas. The little ones tend to get really sick really fast and you have to watch them a lot closer than you do larger (or maybe I should say 'normal') sized dogs. They get *so* sick, too! Just like babies, they are. But she's fine now, so I can relax.
While I was in Aurora, I managed to find *The Perfect Gift* for my aunt and uncle. Sheer luck, I tell you! So I wrapped it nicely once I was home and then I drove into Hastings w/LeeAnn so I could drop it off for them! See, my aunt is one of those people who just can't wait to open a present; having it there overnight is gonna bug her like crazy! She'll do anything short of actually opening it to try and guess what it is. But it's packed way too good for it to rattle and she's just going to wonder and wonder. It's not really being mean, I wanted to make sure she had it there. (FWIW, it's a ceramic lighted fast food drive-in, one of those "snow village" types that says "Joe's" on it and has menus and prices painted on there as well. Perfect!)
Ok, I'm off to cuddle w/my little fur princess--and the Fur Queen! ;)
