Sports Movie Question

Ok, I've been tinkering with variations on this, and I'm just not finding what I want. Too many hits, for one thing. Maybe I'm over-thinking or messing up on the quote but anyway.

I'm looking for a sports movie that was filmed in the late 1990's, maybe more recently. It was about a high school or college team; I'm thinking *probably* about a football team but it could be basketball or baseball just as easy. The time the movie was set in was probably the 1950's or early 1960's. The scene I am remembering is this:

Coach: (to father of player) "You don't understand, Mr. (Lastname). These boys are in a war."

Father: (to coach) "Sir, I was *in* a war. This is just a game."

I figure I'm close to 95% accurate on the quote and scene, The only movie I can think of it being is "Hoosiers" but that just doesn't seem right. I'm also pretty sure it isn't "Rudy", "Friday Night Lights" or "Remember the Titans". And I'm pretty sure it's not a hockey film either.

"Titans" just seems like the wrong era for some reason. Any other ideas?

Could it be Glory Road? The basketball one with the uber hottie from Sweet Home Alabama? I know for a face it's not Remember the Titans...that was my favorite movie for the longest time and I've still got it basically memorized. Other than that...I got nothing.

I'm pretty sure it's football, but it might be basketball. I can remember nothing else about the movie, only the coach/father scene.
