Prop 8

For those of us who don't live in California, you might not have heard that the measure known Proposition 8, which seeks to *overturn marriage rights for gays*, is winning in the polls. This is bad news for all of us. So, I am going to do what I do best, and post a link and some info. What can we do, if we don't live in CA? Well, here's *our* chance to help out, and DONATE! For every dollar you donate at this site for the Human Rights Campaign California Marriage PAC, it will be doubled, and all proceeds will go to help fight Proposition 8 in California:

Here in UK we have gay marriage and it is considered normal, and should be everywhere, because it is. Let us hope that if proposition 8 comes into force that the new government reverses it. But better still, let us all hope that it never comes into force.

I htought you had civil unions there which is pretty close to be equal but not quite the same thing.

yeah they have civil unions in new zealand but it's still not marriage there either.

We treat it as a marriage here even though it has a different name, For example: I am a nurse and we had a patient whose family refused to allow the same sex partner to see him. They had a civil contract afterwards and on his return he had a civil contract which meant we could give the power to his husband to say who could see his ill husband and who could not. The same applies to pension, inheritance and next of kin rights.

In the UK it is treated as a marriage, even though it is called a civil contract, and the same rights are accorded in everyday practice, although it is too early yet to say whether it is in law but the expectation is that it will be.

god it's so disgusting, what the hell is wrong with people?

I thought no one could stoop lower to saying that being gay was the same as dog sex (might as well marry a cocker spaniel! hahaha fuck off). But they are going to steal people's marriages?
