Offline Until Further Notice

Why? Computer troubles. Last night, the keyboard on my 2000 locked up. As in quit. Can't type *at all*. The mouse works fine but not the keyboard. As near as I can figure, I have to do a complete re-install -- but since I don't have the disk(s) needed, that means my 2000 is officially done for. Right now I am using my old Me, but there is something wrong with it too (which is why I went to the 2000 in the first place); namely I keep getting exe. errors and Fire -- faux keeps disappearing every few minutes, my firewall keeps shutting down and won't reboot.

The only good thing is that the stuff I have on the hds seems to be ok -- so far. Keep your fingers crossed for me -- **please**.

My "last resort" 'puter is an XP desktop -- which seems to work ok *except* that I cannot find the keyboard, which is (I HOPE!!) the reason it doesn't seem to be accessing the internet connection. (It seems that the keyboard is something else that my former brother may well have made 'disappear'. But again, no proof.)

I know a lot of you are pretty computer repair savvy; I am not. I am a genuine l-user when it comes to fixing this sort of thing. I have neither the tools nor space to even think about this, let alone the overall patience and smarts.

So this means I will be offline until... who knows? The weekend, maybe. Believe me, if I had the $$$$ to do so, I would be racing for the nearest 'puter store right now. But I don't. As far as advice goes -- if you have any ideas or suggestions, go ahead and mention them. At the rate things are going, I'm not sure when or even if I'll be able to try it out though.

Oh yeah, and when I do get back online w/ IM, etc. I will probably be using a new sn. Not sure what it will be but it will probably be similar to what you already recognise.

PS. I just realised -- I lied. If I had any spare $$$$ *at all*, I would be with some of my sibs next month on the 18th and not buying a new 'puter. Sorry.

Yikes! You poor dear. I feel for you as I have had 'puter problems in the past. My current one is circling the drain itself; hopefully, I'll be able to get a new laptop before this one beeps its last beep. Good luck, honey. >:D<

Is your 2000 a laptop? If so, you can get a really cheap keyboard - less than $10 - pretty much anywhere and you should be able to plug that in to the laptop.

If you truly do need to reformat the computer, you should have all your restore info somewhere on the hard drive. If you can find it you should be able to use just the mouse and burn the info to disk and reinstall after you reformat. Hopefully. :)

Hi! Yes it's a laptop but there's only one port that could be used for a keyboard and I need that for my mouse. So it's a question of figuring out how to get the XP set up for online... grrrr!
