What I Did Today
May. 27th, 2008 09:47 pmLeeAnn's ears have been bothering her for the entire holiday weekend (of course), so today I took her to the v-e-t in Aurora. This was not appreciated. As far as she is concerned, I take her to the Chamber of Horrors. Anyway, I taker her inside and there is a little kid racing around and wanting to "pet the cute puppy". I smile and hold her on my shoulders and hope he doesn't try and pull her tail or something because she is *not* a toy (though she is a toy breed, aka "barking doorbell"); she is a live, sentient being who is also middle-aged in dog years and shaking like a leaf -- her usual reaction to the Chamber of Horrors. Fortunately the kid and his family leave without incident. The doctor checks her ears, LeeAnn shivers and screams when he touches her left ear and thus we discover that they are inflamed but no (yeast) infection has set in. I am told that I am lucky to bring her in at this stage because usually he doesn't see this until the infection is well-established -- which makes me wonder just how anyone with a furkid can *not* notice such a thing. The good news is that it will clear up easily but I will have to give her periodic ear drops as a preventative.
Also, I discovered that the "Crossroads Death Corner" -- a weirdly *bad* intersection around here -- is the main source of car-related deaths in the county. I've driven this road thousands of times, practically my entire life -- the local news just did a segment on it -- and yet, I damn near got nailed today *despite* knowing all this. I'm glad that the pavement wasn't any slicker because otherwise the semi (and just what the *Hell* was a semi doing running w/o lights on a very gloomy, drizzly day in the first place? Idiot!) would have nailed me for sure and since I had the stop sign, it would have been my fault.
