I suppose that a few of those pics might be pics of brothers. But some of those poses are not in the least bit 'brotherly'. And I like to imagine that since most photographers developed their own film rather than sending it to a lab, that they probably were known in the gay community as "safe" photographers -- especially if they were in NYC, SF or someplace nearby. Just a guess of course but people don't change that much in some ways. [I hope that makes sense, I got a buzz on, sorry.]
