I feel badly for Matilda but to be honest, I never got a "couple" vibe from Heath and Michelle. Oh, maybe a slight one at first because she was expecting... but the feeling of "couple" was never there. (Slight rant below the cut; some of you might want to avoid this part.)
The cynic in me thinks that Michelle was smart enough to get pregnant while Heath was busy playing 'nurse' after her tumble from the sled and being all attentive and helpful (which just happened to be when Jake was gone on second location shooting for the rodeo scenes, iirc -- how very very convenient); it doesn't take much to make a discreet hole or two in a condom, or convince a guy that "it'll be ok just this once" to *not* use one. Yeah yeah, I know... it's the guy's responsibility as well. But damn, if a woman wants to get pregnant by a certain guy, it's not that damned hard since the only birth control that is 100% effective is either abstinence or sterilization. Everything else is a "maybe" at best. (And weirdly, 99% of guys seem to equate the idea/concept of a vasectomy with castration. Go figure.)
My message to guys -- ::thwaps Heath in particular:: Next time, dummy -- use a freakin' condom!!!

Date: 2007-09-02 09:03 pm (UTC)Matilda obviously looks like Heath though, which was hard for Naomi Watts at the time because she'd been wanting a baby so much and Heath dumped her and knocked up Michelle. My sister was thinking he cheated on Naomi with Michelle who "smartly" got pregnant forcing a desicion for him.
I AM SO FULL OF USELESS FACTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Date: 2007-09-02 10:21 pm (UTC)Anyway, I felt sorry for Naomi because Heath does (did?) have a reputation for falling in love with his leading ladies and doubly so since she wanted a baby so bad. Michelle was the first one smart enough to get preggers though (and I did wonder if she didn't have some sort of dislike for Naomi to start with.) I mean really -- with all of the options available to women now, pregnancy is easily avoided unless she *wants* to get pregnant. And as I said before, yes, the man has to take responsibility for his actions but still, it is the woman's *choice* (or so I am always told).
I didn't know much about Michelle before and I don't follow her career even now. She emancipated herself at 16 though so watching her raise a child should be interesting. (I have the feeling karma might decide to bite her.)
Just my two cents.

Date: 2007-09-02 11:04 pm (UTC)My RPS fantasies are strictly just that, in my mind and I do find the situation very sad. At the same time, there's no point in remaining in a loveless relationship with tension and fighting - it just isn't healthy for the child.
I have the feeling it will be joint custody for sure...
