I'm going to ask everyone a question and see what happens. (Don't worry, it's work-safe. *G*)

If you had a chance to host a film festival, which *four* movies would you choose--and why?

EDIT: Thank you to everyone who answered. I've got a lot to choose from now. :)

That is a difficult question lol. But I'll give it a go.

1. Rebel Without A Cause because it's an absolute crime against humanity to not see the wonderfulness of James Dean, and it's the original coming-of-age movie.

2. Silence of the Lambs because it's the ultimate psychological thriller. It stays with you not because it's gory but because it's legitimately scary. And I also love that the best horror film has a woman as the star and she's actually intelligent.

3. Casablanca because it's straight-up beautiful and I like that it's a romance but doesn't have the happily-ever-after ending.

4. The Departed because it's my favourite movie and I'm not about to skip it lol. And it's not a perfect film, it has lots of little problems that kinda drive me nuts (especially on the editing front). Plus I love movies that blur the line between good and evil and I don't think I've seen a movie that does it better than this one.

I think I got a little bit of everything in there lol.

Blade Runner because it's an iconic post-apoc-style sci-fi movie and one of Harrison Ford's best non-Star Wars works.

Army of Darkness because it's campy as hell--and camp is good.

The Usual Suspects because it's a great mindfuck movie. As many times as I've seen it, I still notice something new every time I watch it. And even though I know what happens, it's still fun to see calculated well-planned revenge in all its gory glory.

Apocalypse Now--because it's an amazing movie that messes with your head a bit (toward the end) and shows the serious fucked-upness of a seriously fucked-up war (Vietnam).

Blade Runner is made of awesome! Every sci-fi and anime it seems that has come out since then has tried to BE Blade Runner.

i'm not sure i understand the question right but..

1)Mononoke-hime: because it's Miyazaki, has a beautiful story, and it has the greatest ending(well one of the greatest).

2)Donnie Darko: because it's confusing and it is whatever you want it to be(coming of age movie, fantasy, horror, suburban life, drama, black comedy etc.) plus Jake Gyllenhaal(at his finest).

3)Minority Report: because i love it :) great plot, great direction, great acting.it makes you think but not too much cause it's also action movie.

4)Capturing The Friedmans: because i want to chose a documentary and this is superb.

"The Sweet Hereafter"--because it captures quite perfectly the feeling of icy desolated grief, makes incest seem a natural afterthought and has the creepiest non-sexual seduction scene I've ever seen.

"Gosford Park"--because it out Agatha Christie's Agathe Christie.

"The Last King of Scotland"--of course for Forrest Whitaker's awesome performance but also because it takes the massive genocide and evil of a dictator and brings it to an intimate level.

"The Good Thief"--Nick Nolte's best perhaps and most charming work involves him being a drug addicted thief in Paris whose "group" includes a transvestite and an underage prostitute.
