Mostly Cat-Related

la_samtyrMama Mu is once again acting like she's going to have her kittens today. SO... we shall see, I guess.
The local sheriff stopped by to give me a new *accurate* number for Donna. Seems she called them and said it was a "family emergency"--which was true, mostly. (Her mom is sick and in and out of the hospital. Wow.) First though, she managed to call Jesse's new number in Hastings which I *really* wish that she hadn't done because I want nothing that can even be vaguely construed as "making trouble." *Then* she called the Clay Co. sheriff to come and give me a message. ::mutters darkly:: That is just *so* humiliating! I mean, good grief! If there is one thing that I hate.... Why the hell she could not try and call one of the Aunties is beyond me! Oh yeah, and the reason she called in the first place is because she "had an absolutely horrible dream that I was hurt/in danger." On the other hand, drama queen that she is, it's probably just as well she didn't call one of the Aunties and get them all freaked out.
Which kind of leads into the second weird happening of the day. Actually, it happened prior to the phone call, but anyway... So, I am in the grocery store trying to determine which brand of dry cat food is less likely to be recalled and studying the labels as carefully as I can. In the middle of all this, one of the locals walks up to me and begins to explain that the recalls are all part of a Chinese plot to overthrow the government by killing us (the US people) by first testing things out on our pets. I'm just standing there stupidly, trying to think of something to say but I can't. All I can say is "Uh...." which apparently meant I agreed with them because they finally wandered off, secure in the knowlege that what they had just told me made perfect sense. Sadly though, I feel stupid. It didn't make sense to me then and I am tired of trying to figure it out. (There's not even a full moon tonight. Does anyone know if Mercury is retrograde, or something?) That my friends is life in a small town.
