Ok, so if you are reading this far, you know what happened on Friday. This is what happened today. I made an appointment to meet with an attourney tomorrow at 9am. The cost? A mere One Hundred and Forty Dollars an Hour!!!! ::::gulps:::: I guess that is the reason why they have the paralegals do so much preliminary work--I knew I should have gone to law school. But in any case, I don't have a choice because the complexities of this little mess are way beyond my ability to deal.

In other news, I finally was vindicated when Sam told Shockey about the Great Tire Rim Switcheroo. I know, this stuff sounds crazy but it's true. A few years back, I wasn't able to drive my car (the famous 1979 Dodge Omni) since I could start it but it wouldn't get in gear. I assumed that it was due to a transmission problem and since I had another car at the time, I didn't worry about it right away. A while later, I finally had Sam come over to look at the transmission. Instead, he asks me when I changed the rims. My response? A "Huh? Change rims? What are you talking about?" Sam then explains to me that although the rims are the same size, they are not the original ones. An Omni is front-wheel drive, so the rims have to be a certain "model" so the tires can be rotated properly. In my case, someone put the wrong rims on the front of my car, which messed up the caliphers so that the brakes were "frozen". (Ok, that might not be exact, but it's close enough to give you the general idea.) The rims do however work quite nicely on the rear wheels. Now in my defense, I had no garage available (a great pity, you have no idea how much grief a garage would save me) and no reason to imagine why someone would go to all that trouble in the first place, it would have been much easier to just steal them outright. But no. Appearances were kept up and since the hubcaps were in place, it wasn't noticeable at a casual glance. When I told Shockey about it, he just said "That doesn't make any sense. Who would go to all that work and trouble?" It's reactions like his to the weird stuff that always seems to happen to me that make me feel as if I *am* stupid.

Who did it? I learned who did it tonight, the guys slipped up. It was Val and her "family." Personally I had thought it was Jack F.s daughter Debbie or maybe even Jack himself. It makes perfect sense (in either case, to be honest) because they were always running errands of one sort or another for Mom and even if they were seen, no-one would have said anything. Mom was nothing if not protective of her friends and if you didn't want to start something, you just kept your mouth shut. (These people were trash; unfortunately, they were also the only ones who came forward to help w/my dad when he was at home. None of the Catholics would help because Mom was Protestant and so "A wife's church should come forward and help" while the Protestants refused because Dad was Catholic and used the same argument "A husband's church..." If you get the feeling I'm not overly fond of either side, you're right. I keep quiet only because otherwise the family would never let me hear the end of it and I enjoy my peace and quiet. I'm far too tired to keep fighting certain battles ad nauseum.) And interestingly, Val is still driving the same car, which makes me wonder just what part she'll be needing next. The only advantage is that I am always driving the Omni now and it's parked in easy sight of my front window, unlike the other place which tended to be in a blind spot.

Ok, enough bitching. Time for me to get some rest. Tomorrow will be a long day.
