Today's News
Dec. 16th, 2006 05:58 pmBut first, I'll start with yesterday. Yesterday I managed to pay my car insurance, renew my car liscense at the courthouse, get the porch window from CC Lumber and sent off the checks to pay the plumbing bill and my meds bill. Also I got groceries and some pet supplies. (Out of all the things I am grateful for, cheap cat litter is just about top of the list. Seriously.) Oh yeah, and I got a money order so I could pay my house insurance too. Best of all, since I had *money*, I was able to send Sue's Christmas package off. Late I know (sorry!) but with luck it will arrive more or less on time. So last night was spent vegging out in front of the tv, watching LotR 3 on tv, since I probably will be getting rid of the cable tv part sometime next month. I like it but I *need* my Internet access, since I have no telephone per se except my cell phone, and that costs me ten cents/minute. Expensive yes but only when I have to use it every day for extended periods of time. It was only ever meant for occassional use, not as a replacement for a regular phone.
[Speaking of which, my old telephone bill ran about $40/mo which was just for basic service. Not too bad but what pissed me off was the fact that we were supposed to have a 25 mi. radius before long distance charges kicked in--and to call CC, which is a grand total of *six* miles away, was long-distance. Hastings has almost always been long distance but CC is the county seat and I mean *come on*, *six fucking miles* is long distance?!? Of course, they came up w/a $5/mo charge for to be able to call CC but that just seems wrong. In fact, there wasn't really *anyplace* we could call w/o incurring l-d charges, which made it seem like a damned con. There were other reasons why I had to drop my phone though and while I miss it, I'd miss being online even more.]
Today I spent catching up on Christmas cards and other correspondence. Yes, I still write "real" letters. Ink on paper, sent in an envelope, using a stamp provided by the USPS. In an odd way, it's become a new status symbol. I had planned to do laundry but I didn't have that much and it was too chilly outside (I'm one of those weirdoes who hates dryers and hangs things outside on a clothesline nearly all the time.)
Ok, I am off to try and do some more Christmas decorating. I'm missing some of my sparkly beaded garlands and I want to find them.
