In your own space, talk about your Happy Place—the things that give you joy, calms you or keeps you sane.

I have a lot of those places but in the last few weeks, I have especially enjoyed watching 'reaction' videos on YT when people are watching Queen for the first time. Sometimes it's their set @ Live Aid or some other live concert; other times, it's a music video -- notably 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. But almost all of them are wide-eyed and open-mouthed, just like they're seeing Santa for the first time.

And I'm just thinking to myself: "yeah, that's why I stayed old-school, kids."

I remember them at Live Aid, I watched that all the way from beginning to end, and they just blew it away!

Absolutely! They owned the entire crowd! I watched a video of it the other day, and the memories! Kev went to see the film recently and said it was brilliant.

(I also enjoyed Eric Clapton and Dire Straits, too; I think they were later in the evening, though)

My dad was in and out of hospital from '83-'89, and since I can't seem to remember it very well, I probably spent the day at his bedside with my mom. :(

Well, those were quite happy times. Oddly, I can’t imagine Live Aid happening now, I think people have gone off in quite the wrong direction and would be too cynical and ‘Let them sort out their own problems’ etc, etc. It makes me so sad..

Yeah, times have changed a lot since then and not usually for the better. :/

No, it almost seems ‘sweet’ and hopeful and even naive in a way. Wish it was like that now!

I agree Live Aid wouldn't happen today because of being sweet and hopeful. It's quite a feature in the movie and in many ways feels more part of another time and place than scenes that happened ten years before. We have become very jaded and are suffering for it.

What an amazing happy place! I didn't actually know that kind of reaction vids existed, but I can imagine how fantastic it would be to see those faces.

I was lucky to find the reaction vids. They are loads of fun, and interestingly enough, I *think* that a lot of them started posting just when the movie came out. :)

Queen is definitely one of those groups where people realize just what sort of things are possible with music. Those reaction videos sound like the best sort of thing to watch.

You just found the perfect happy place for someone whose musical happy place has been Queen since like --- forever. I had no idea reaction vids were a thing either, but need to go search because that sounds lovely.

There are a lot of Queen reaction vids on YT and I hope you find some to enjoy. For the most part, it's the first time they've ever really *heard* Queen, and they're just "in love; how did we not know this". :)

I introduced my husband's niece to Queen's earlier music on Christmas afternoon when we were all collapsed after lunch and she'd asked me about the movie. Your bit about people being wide eyed and open mouthed? She knew and liked their later work but had never heard the early material (except Bo Rap, everyone's heard that without really hearing it) and she was blown away and kept using words like 'brilliant' and 'genius'. I found it very satisfying :D
