The Game That Wasn't
Sep. 4th, 2018 08:28 pmSo, the holiday weekend was nice, quiet and well, rainy. Lots and lots of rain that lasted off and on until this afternoon, though we'll probably be getting more. So much outdoor work to finish and I'm just falling farther behind. *sighs*
But the really big news happened on Saturday night, when the University football game was cancelled due to a really serious thunderstorm(s). Side note: I don't know what Loki did, but he sure made Thor mad. XD
For my UK friends: rather than dwelling on the differences between the US and UK versions of the game, just concentrate on the similarities -- namely the fans, ok? :)
The game was the season opener for both teams and in this case, there is a new coach for UNL (aka Nebraska aka Big Red aka my team.) There were all sorts of events planned as well because hey, we're talking major red carpet level. Yes, really. And it was a sold-out crowd. 91,000 seats. Yes, you read that right. Ninety-one THOUSAND seats.
All of them waited for over 2 hours for the rain delayed game to begin, only to be told that the game had been cancelled. Yikes! =( And even worse, it's not likely to be rescheduled. And to show how rare this cancellation is (especially for weather), it is (I think!) the first time in 128 seasons (or years, basically the same thing.) =(
So basically, with minor variations, this is the only conversation I've heard all weekend long! Gah! I hope your weekend was better.
Niters, all!

Date: 2018-09-05 11:24 am (UTC)Our rain is supposed to start on Friday and continue for days, but since it's forecast to bring the temps down from the 90s at LAST, I'm determined not to whine about it.
