Fandom Snowflake Challenge -- Day 10

In your own space, share your love for a trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme. (More than one is okay, too.) Tell us about it, tell us why you love it, give us some examples and recs.
I have a lot of them but right now one of my favorites is where things go AU from canon. [Maybe because I desperately wish the same could happen in my own life -- red pill or blue pill...] Just one little thing changes, and it's a who new story. I love these! Love 'em to bits! :)
Here are a couple of Thor-Avengers AU featuring Loki (he's not a super-villain here either):

Summary: Things go very differently on the ill-suited venture to Jotunheim when the Frost Giants notice something about one of the invaders. But their decision to "rescue" what they assume must be a kidnapped Jotun has many unexpected and far-spanning consequences... especially for Loki himself.

Summary: Loki falls... to Earth, and is rescued by SHIELD. Things go about as you'd expect.
As for Tolkien fics -- Silm, LoTR or Hobbit... honestly, the writers are all great and you can't go wrong with any of them or their stories. It's just a question of who/what you like to read, and then go from there. I'd suggest choosing one of the smaller fan archives rather than AO3, for the simple reason that there is a greater sense of "friendship" there.
