Very true... although sometimes I've found the "less must be more" constraints of a movie actually improved a story over the book, just because the pace is so much better (apologies to 19th century lit fans, but most of the Bronte/Austen books are simply too tedious for my liking, though I've found several film versions very entertaining). But most of the time, if it's a well-written book, I'll take the book every time. :)

True, that. I can honestly say for some stories, I like both equally. LOTR, for instance, even though the books are so very much more. The Martian? Totally preferred the book.
