Seriously, the fan-related/meta eps are the best ever!

Why do I post this now? Because I just bought -on iTunes- SPN ep S10.5 (aka Episode 200: "Fan Fiction") and I just adore it to bits! Teeny-tiny, itty-bitty-bitsy bits! OMG! :D

I've only seen a couple episodes of Supernatural. What did they do the Fan Fiction one?

I hate to spoil it for you if you haven't seen it then. But it's just a lot of fun. :)

I've cherry-picked what I think are the best eps, and I have a few friends who are *rabid* fans, so I have a pretty good idea of the series overall.

I'd like to read SNL fic but it's so hard weeding out all the bro-cest that I just gave up.

I really don't read the fic either. Which is sad because I am sure there is a lot of good stuff out there.

Interestingly, I think that the SPN series & fandom has turned out what I was looking for in XFiles. I haven't seen either the XF 2nd movie or the reboot and I doubt if I do -- which is sad. Also, from what I have heard, most of the actors are not fan-friendly or even tolerant -- which is also sad.

Do NOT see the 2nd movie. It was horrible.

The 6 or so episode season we got earlier this year was decent but, not only did they not clear up anything left unanswered in the original run, they started more topics that also didn't get answered. And no Alex.

I know. Without Alex, there is no reason for me to even bother. (As opposed to the first 5 seasons of XF, with Alex or not, where the eps were often brilliant. Clyde Bruckman, Jose Chung... *tear*)

Sadly, I was very ready for the show to be done at the end of season 6. And then Mulder got abducted. I had shiny visions of the new Alex/Marita show that could have been... but no, we got the new people. It should have just ended.

Oh, I know! Alex/Marita would have been great. There was no good reason for them to avoid giving Alex his own 'history ep'. (Marita too, for that matter.) And there were so many other loose ends that could have been fixed as well. But sadly CC got his grubby hands on it and just made an ugly mess.

This, I think, is where SPN gets it right and XF gets, well, a big fat "F". Granted, not every fan is pleased with every ep but SPN seems to try and stay more focused than XF did.

(Also, SPN shows their appreciation to the fans in a lot of ways: there are multiple cons where the actors appear for more than just an hour or two, the meta eps, etc.)

I used to love SPN and that episode was one of my faves. We stopped watching it when Lucifer jumped into Cas' body last season because the stupid was making my head hurt.

That is a big part of the reason I cherry-pick my eps. The first 2-3 seasons are safe enough though. Not sure about the later seasons, though I will probably buy "Baby" (aka The Car ep. :)
