Thought this article might be of interest. I never took Latin or Greek, yet both my mom and dad learned it in school (this was before WWII, btw) and yet, I didn't. (It was considered old-fashioned, I guess. Go figure, eh?)

I agree. My dad took both Latin and Greek in school (also pre-WWII) and I took Latin because I was curious about the language. I'm amazed at the lack of reading and writing skills demonstrated by today's younger generation. When I'm reading posts or even resumes presented to me, it's rather appalling and quite scary. The dumbing down of our youth in communication skills is horrific!

I wish I had but it was considered "old-fashioned" by then. At uni, it wasn't required either and I wish it had been since they had a very good religious department that offered both.
