Movie meme - Day 29
Aug. 29th, 2015 07:13 pmDay 29 – A movie from your childhood
The Wizard of Oz

More yakking under the cut.
This is another movie that is important if you want to understand me and my background. Well, mostly my mom and dad's background. They both grew up in the heart of the 1930's Great Depression; the Dust Bowl, to be exact. The Kansas scenes (in b/w & sepia) aren't just movie scenes, it's what -- and how -- they *lived* back then.
And even though no movie scene can be *exact*, these come pretty darn close. As for the farm itself, I was lucky enough to "visit" their farms (both came from farm families) and yes, the farmyards were very close to what you see on the screen as well. The horse-drawn machinery, the barn design and the house... all of it, just so much like what I remember. Even the doilies and curtains that are shown inside the house -- the patterns are almost identical.
Sadly, I don't have any pictures to bear witness because in those days, photographs were expensive and very seldom showed the interior of a house. And alas, both farm houses and yards are gone now but at least I have memories if nothing else.
