Well, yesterday was spent cleaning up after the storm of late Saturday night/early Sunday Morning. I was lucky; only a few smaller branches came down. It probably would have been worse if I hadn't had so much cleaned out a month ago. But I did rake some to clean up the smaller twigs and such.

But there were several trees that came down around town because I heard chain saws and heavy equipment all day long. And one of the local businesses lost their roof. As in, the entire roof. All of it. They've been struggling as it is (with their newest competitor taking a good chunk of their customers) and had just put a new sign up on Friday. I hope this isn't the end of them.

Right now we have a severe thunderstorm watch until 2 pm, which is not a fun way to start the day or week. Ugh.

I noticed a large tree across the driveway of a local restaurant that had gone out of business in December. I guess they're glad they don't have to remove that in time for their Sunday brunch customers.

Our winds were intense on Saturday and I was expecting horrid weather for Sunday but it turned into a stunningly beautiful day with partly cloudy, mostly sunny, mid-70's temps and very light (if any) rain. Really, it couldn't have been better.

I hope your weather calms down soon. I keep looking down to your location when I check my weather radar app and yeah - you've been hit lately!

It's been bad but so far it's not been too horrible around here. Yet. I imagine you've seen the most recent news from about the twins+ tornadoes from near Norfolk last night. :(

Yes - I saw the original stormchaser footage on the Weather channel last night - simply amazing stuff. Very frightening. I'm so glad that it was in a rural area - still bad news for those living there, but just imagine if something like that had hit Lincoln or Omaha. Yikes!

Keep safe!

What worries me is that such a small town will find it very difficult to rebuild, assuming it is even do-able.

From what I gather, the school, co-op (and their grain bins), city hall, police and fire departments -- along with the entire downtown area -- is just *gone*. I'm afraid that the number-crunchers will decide that it is just not "cost effective" to rebuild.

I never underestimate the stubbornness of the human spirit. As I heard it, nobody was killed as a result of this storm (although I may have heard wrong since I only heard preliminary reports), and that's a bit of a miracle in itself. If the roots of the people are deep enough in the area, they may rebuild. Otherwise they may find other places to move to.

It was frightening to watch this twin tornado - they were huge and powerful and nothing was going to stop their chosen pathway.

Oh, my gosh! I am glad you're safe! How long is this weather supposed to continue for?

I don't know how long this weather will continue. It's already hot and muggy right now, so I suppose there will be more storms today. :(

I am glad you are safe and hope you continue to be so. I also hope the weather stops being so irresponsible, stops acting like a little kid, and settles down for a long nap!

I wish the weather would settle down -- it's just wicked nasty out. And I am sure today there will be more storms, somewhere in the state. :(

Oh dear. We had storms a lot in the winter but gales in summer are, fortunately, a rarity. I really don't envy you at all...

The weather is just primed for storms right now. I hope the weather pattern breaks to something a little nicer soon. :(

Sounds like a dreadful storm. I hope no one was injured.

It was pretty bad in spots but we got off easy compared to what happened last night near Norfolk, NE. :(
