Today's News and Weather Report
Nov. 19th, 2013 08:28 pmToday was really nice outside and warm for November. Not super-warm but it was nice enough so all I needed was a long-sleeved shirt when I did a bit of yard work. Tomorrow should be nice as well but after that it will become colder. Well, it's almost winter so it's to be expected.
I took my little dog LeeAnn to the vet in the afternoon. She's had a bad coat problem and scratching like mad for the last week, so I finally got an appointment for today. I had just left the house and was about an 1/8th mile from Hwy. 14 when the vet called and said he needed to push the appointment back a half-hour. I said it was fine and decided to go on in early anyway.
On a side note, the fact that I was on a county two-lane and could stop to take a call is one of the rare pluses about living in such a rural area. Yes I know, it's very risky anyway -- but if it hadn't been the vet calling I wouldn't have stopped at all.
The reason why I didn't take her sooner is that local vets no longer allow you to charge unless it's pre-approved in advance *each time*; since I literally didn't have the money I had to wait until I did. The vet looked her over and said she has a flea allergy. And yes, I do use Frontline but the outdoor cats (i.e., the neighborhood cats and the local ferals) often come up and rub against her and Naz when they're out so it's an on-going issue. Since I can't swat at the cats without scaring the dogs, it's become a zero-sum game. *sighs*
But anyway, he gave her a shot to help with the itching as well as a new box of Frontline. I am to check back with him in a month to see how things are going but since there is no way to keep her completely flea-free, I imagine she will need periodic injections. I also got a special comb to help with pulling all of the loosened hair/fur out. The vet did her coat first to show me and omg! he got enough loose hair off of her to stuff a beanbag! Yikes! But at least it's easily treatable. I was rather worried and not being able to take her in sooner didn't help. And the vet said she looked to be in good shape, considering her bad heart.
And on another side note, she was so proud when I put her harness on and we had a brief little walk before leaving. I leave it off since she's indoors all the time and I don't want to worry that she might manage to get caught on something. And I haven't been walking her outside much because of the cat issue.
Tomorrow I have a big list of errands in Hastings, so I need to go now. Later!
