The Month In Review
Aug. 31st, 2013 09:42 pmThis has been kind-of a strange month. I would give it a kind 'five' and that is being generous.
The first two weeks were so-so. My cleaning lady has faithfully shown up every. single. day. >.< Which is actually great, y'know because I have had stuff sitting around for way too long and I need someone to work with me on it. Otherwise I am just overwhelmed by memories and everything (since a lot of it is family stuff) and it really is the only way for me to make progress. The bad side is: I have not been able to get to the Y at. all., and I am losing way to much time there -- to say nothing of how much exhausted I feel because I am sitting in this same old mess nearly 24/7, which is not good. I am paying for a membership that isn't being used like it should because the classes I take are in the mornings... *sigh* But at the same time, this other needs to be done as well... ::spazzes::
I had also hoped to be able to visit my cousins in Chicago again since they were kind enough to invite me on their vacation but I had to pass at the last minute because of RL last minute things that came up. I only had a small window of time to make it but alas, it was not to be. I kept hoping... but no. :( Maybe I will have a chance to see them later on this fall but again, I'm not sure if it will work out. I definitely do not want to visit Chicago in the dead of winter.
And then -- things got weird.
When you clean, you usually unplug stuff to you can move furniture etc. around so you can clean properly right? Right. So, I went to plug in my printer again, and guess what? No power cord. I looked all over and if it's here in the house, it must have gotten repacked because it's nowhere to be seen. No problem, I thought. I'll just get a spare in Hastings. Guess what? Almost everyplace (including the much-adored [by others] evil empire aka WM) carries a variety of cords, plug-ins, jacks, printer ink -- you name it *Except* for freakin' printer power cords. >>.<< "We'll sell you a printer," they said. ::steams:: No thank you. I have a perfectly good printer ready to be used -- once I find the power cord again. I do not need another printer. So, I had to order it online and it will be here -- sometime next week. *sighs*
To make things even better this week, I ended up with a major plumbing crisis on Friday. Despite calls to almost every plumber in the book, no-one could come out because (a0 they were already busy and (b) it's a major holiday weekend. One guy did come out but only to look, not bringing a single tool with him. Despite the fact that I *know* I explained what the problem was over the phone, he showed up "just to look." ::headesk x 1 trillion or so:: If they had only *listened*, I could have had it part-way fixed by now. (But guys never seem to listen when women talk about plumbing or 'technical' stuff over the phone.) And so, I have two possible companies who *might* show on Tuesday and I don't know which one to choose. The one who said flat out they couldn't make it, or the one who sent a guy out to look. **sighs**
Even worse, this means the cleaning has screeched to a stop. I can't do laundry or any other major cleaning because I don't want something else to go wrong, which means no water. Before all this happened, I had made quite a bit of progress in several areas ::flails::
And that is the month that was. I am off to bed to try and sleep. Maybe when I wake up, things will be better.

Date: 2013-09-01 11:24 am (UTC)As for the plumber - I would choose the one who comes in at a reasonable quoted rate and seems competent (of course I also check Angie's List and I don't know if you have access to that or not).
Good luck - plumbing problems are my lifetime issue and seem to follow me wherever I go.

Date: 2013-09-01 02:24 pm (UTC)We've had to get plumbers in this month too. They can pretty much charge what they wish here.
Hope the next month is much better for you!
