Robert A. Heinlein

1. The whole principle [of censorship] is wrong. It’s like demanding that grown men live on skim milk because the baby can’t have steak.

2. Your enemy is never a villain in his own eyes. Keep this in mind; it may offer a way to make him your friend. If not, you can kill him without hate — and quickly.

3. Never underestimate the power of human stupidity.

4. The universe never did make sense; I suspect it was built on government contract.

5. A dying culture invariably exhibits personal rudeness. Bad manners. Lack of consideration for others in minor matters. A loss of politeness, of gentle manners, is more significant than is a riot…

6. Never insult anyone by accident.

7. One could write a history of science in reverse by assembling the solemn pronouncements of highest authority about what could not be done and could never happen.

He was such a genius with words. I really should buy some of his books in digital form since I consider them classics.

I still haven't gotten to the 4th step of my Nook so I guess I am forever going to be a non-ebook reader.

What is a 4th step on your Nook? I've had a Nook for years but I'm not sure what you mean by that...

I love my Ereader. I often do research through it - one book on my Nook, another on my phone and a third on my computer, all using the Noon application. It's been a real advantage :-)

First, I couldn't get a wifi signal from my house, so I had to go back the next day and deal with that. Only to find out then they wanted plastic to verify that I was 'real'. And since I didn't have the $$ for a prepaid card, I had to wait. And wait... And now? I have the pre-paid but I really do not give a damn. The time when I was interested and intrigued and all that has come and gone.

The weird thing is, I have an Amazon account but I don't trust *them* since my cousin Paul (who writes code, and I trust him implicitly on all things computer) sent me an article on a woman who had a large Amazon/Kindle account/library wiped out by Amazon due to... reasons unknown. When she tried to find out, all she got was "Newspeak'. I was left with the feeling that her account had probably been hacked or otherwise compromised but Amazon gave her no recourse to find out what had happened and try to make things right again. So now, no way am I risking my few $$ on that something like that happening to me w/Amazon. I'll just stick with the old-fashioned paper.

Ah, I understand. I don't have WiFi at my home either, but I have it at work and in most of the other public places I go to and I've had a Barnes account set up for years and years because I buy tons from them. So for me a Nook was reasonable to have.

I really don't like Amazon - I buy very little from them, only under necessity. I have similar hesitations about my iTunes account, but I really love/need my music and I really love reading my books from numerous places without the bulk of a paper copy so I'm happy with digital media and I'll take my chances that it will be money wasted someday. That'll really suck, but in the meantime I have more than 350 books taking up the size of my smartphone. All good :-)

I am sorry about the run-around you ended up with, though. It's hard to live in our society now-a-days without at least one credit card and an electronic footprint.
