My aunt passed away early this morning, 3 am or so. :(
I was assuming the funeral would be later this week -- for some utterly incomprehensible reason, the funeral has been put off until next Wednesday. Why they want to wait so long, and have it right in the middle of Holy Week... ::shakes head in dismay:: I am the type that likes closure, not dragging things out, especially since most of the immediate family already lives in Omaha or can get there in just a few hours.
So it looks I will continue to be off and on for the next week, plus some.

I have no idea how these things work in the States, obviously, but over here there's a whole lot of preparation necessary before someone can be buried. Ten days sound about realistic. So maybe they wanted to have it earlier, but simply couldn't?

Date: 2013-03-19 02:15 pm (UTC)My own uncle died last week and we had his funeral yesterday. Unfortunately, we sometimes have to work around the funeral homes' schedules when it comes to the timing of a funeral.
And then the weather doesn't cooperate this time of year. My uncle died on a day when the temps were in the 60s. For his funeral yesterday it was about 15 deg with 40 mph winds and it had snowed over the weekend so visibility was horrible on the roads. We have to wait to have his burial because of the weather. Stupid weather.
I do hope all goes smoothly for your aunt's funeral. It's bad enough to have to say goodbye to a family member that you just don't need any hitches in the process. *hug*
