7. And yet another "missing book".

This one is called "Sinbad and Me" by Kin Platt. I picked it up because there was a picture of a boy and a bulldog on the cover which looked better-drawn than some covers (and a million times better than the covers that are drawn today!) and it sounded good too.

And it *was*! As far as kid's books go, this one should have won almost any and all awards it could be nominated for but I don't think it was -- no idea why though. Because this book is made of utter total WIN! It's well-written and believable; best of all, the kids don't sound like they are feeding jokes to the straight man/adult.
ETA: I just realized it won the 1967 Edgar for 'Best Juvenile Mystery'. But it should have won more! If only it had managed a Newberry or something!

*However* it seems to be out-of-print. Which is totally weird because something this good should always be in print, like S.E. Hinton's "The Outsiders". But it's not and I have no idea where my pb copy is. I just wish I had been smart enough to pick up an extra copy when I saw this one! Because now, the only way I have to price some of these books is to look on amazon -- and there are hb's can be had for... ::drum roll please:: $179.97!!!! O________________O Needless to say, I won't be getting a replacement copy anytime soon. (I can only hope that my pb will show up again at some point in time!)
