Barbero pulled up, injured. Not sure exactly what happened, but I hate to see this. Damn. :(

EDIT: Accrding to prelimanry reports, Barbero fractured his leg above and below the "ankle". (Just once, I would like to hear an equine injury described properly...) Either way, this majorly sucks. I hope that Barbero doesn't end up fighting the surgeons like Ruffian did.

Equine medicine, yes. The equine mind, however... ::worries:: well, maybe they have more effective sedatives/tranquilizers now. Let's hope so.

well, Ruffian destroyed her leg thrashing around while coming out of the anesthesia. Now, they have this thing where they can rig up a sling and lower the horse into a pool so that even if they do thrash around coming out of the anesthesia, they don't do anymore damage to themeselves.

And the equine mind...well, I love horses, but let's face it. They aren't the most brilliant creatures.

I was crying my eyes out. Poor Barbaro, and the jockey was so horrified, and Matz. And... God I'm worried about the surgery. *sniffle* I know they have better methods of taking care of horses nowadays, but my mind still lives in fear of instant death or suffering.
