I still have enough of a cold to be miserable and the cold weather isn't helping either. But I *did* manage to find some good cough syrup, which has helped some. And I found some taffy to nibble at when I feel hungry for sweets too -- bonus! But since I can't sleep (or rather, I could sleep if Fatters would stop trying to use my head for a pillow...) Right now I am watching yet another silent movie on TCM:
The Viking (1928)
http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title.jsp?stid=94800
Color, b/w
Cast & Crew
R. William Neill, Director
Donald Crisp as Leif Ericsson
Pauline Starke as Helga
LeRoy Mason as Alwin
Anders Randolph as Eric the Red
Richard Alexander as Siguard
This is surprisingly good, as it deals with Leif Erickson and the Viking discovery of America. There is specific mention in the movie of a thriving colony in Greenland. It also features Helga, as a woman warrior/Valkryie-type, *and* she acquires a male slave (who she later gives away but still.) Is it any wonder that I am so intrigued by these old films? [Just do not expect any great historical accuracy -- but then, even modern 'classics' have historical inaccuracies so that aspect of film hasn't changed.] It's still a really cool film though.
And yes, of course I find it inspiring for writing. ;)
