Book Report: The Front Runner
Apr. 14th, 2006 08:14 pmI have been reading this book since I got it and all I can say is, WOW. It is, quite simply, brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. For once I haven't cheated and read the ending ahead of time, not even a teeny little peek. I have the feeling I'm going to have my heart broken by it though. Ever since 'Brokeback', I have been ultra-sensitive to a lot of things that I never was before. So if anyone on my f-list has read this, please don't spoil it. Here's a brief quote:
"Every Sunday I went to the small Church of the Beloved Disciple on Fourteenth Street, and I prayed rather desperately. I did not pray to be miraculousy changed back into a heterosexual. I prayed for knowlege to know myself and accept myself totally. ... The Gospel of St. John was comforting--he loved the Lord and laid his head on His breast. I could not believe that Jesus had less compassion for gays than for the thieves that He was so gentle with."
