- I'll respond by asking you three questions to satisfy my curiosity that are hypothetical and related to fandom -- in this case, Tolkien.(Possibly fanfic related, possibly general.) Though if I know you from another fandom, I'll use that one for the questions.
- Update your journal with the answers to your questions.
- Include this explanation and offer to ask other people questions.) Optional.
So, let teh weirdness begin! XD
1. How old do you think Legolas is? I know the fanon derived from the film gives a certain age, but it's not recorded in the books.
Oh wow, this is really tricky because it depends on whether or not I consider Legolas of Mirkwood and Legolas of Gondolin as the same person. Unfortunately, Prof. Tolkien left enough hints to make it plausible but not definite. *sigh* So for now, I will assume that Legolas was born in Gondolin but escaped the fall of the city as an infant and raised in Mirkwood, which would make him... idk... 6,480? That would tie in with some of the things that he says in the books anyway. BUT -- I can also see Oropher as being the son of Legolas of Gondolin -- which might cause Thranduil to name his son Legolas after his famous ancestor (which would make him Legolas II.) So if he was born in Greenwood the Great before the Shadow fell, he would be around 6,200-3,000(?) but if he was born after they were driven from Amon Lanc, that would make him about 1,918.
I know -- I never actually answered your question, did I?: ::winces:: Sorry.
2. If you could choose a lineage for yourself in Middle-earth, who would you be and where and when would you live?
From LotR: Éowyn, of course. [I would have her ride ol' Aragorn long and hard enough to make him forget all about whats-her-name. Though Faramir isn't exactly chump change by any stretch of the imagination...]
From the Silm: I'd be the illegitimate daughter of Maedhros and Artanis -- one of those "a bottle, a back seat and a Saturday night" type things. There's nothing like an unexpected pregnancy and an acrimonious custody battle to create intense dislike/loathing between two people. [Oh, and Nerdanel gets custody. Yes, I do have an entire idea for that fic plotted in my head; thank you for jump starting it today. ;)]
3. Have you written an original character you would like to see in the books?
Yes, Riel. :)
