Movies, Continued
Nov. 17th, 2005 07:27 pmThis is a list of the movies I want (or should I say *need*) to find on dvd, along w/a few tv shows.
1. Arsenic and Old Lace--This is one of the best dark comedies *ever*. There are so many funny parts and it's a textbook example of how an ensemble *should* work together. The Aunts are so much like people I grew up knowing (ok, maybe not literally, but still) that it makes me miss those days. I think my favorite line is Josephine Hull to Cary Grant: "I would *never* stoop to telling a fib." Ok, so it's paraphrased a bit but that just cracks me up every time. ROTFL!
2. The Wizard of Oz--There is a new 3 disk set that was just issued this week or maybe last and I *have* to get it. Again, this movie is somewhat of a textbook on where I grew up. After all, I can literally drive to the geographic center of the Lower 48 in a little over an hour. And "Over The Rainbow" is such a great song. In some ways, Judy can be forgiven a lot because of that song. It must be hard to have a real gift; something is always withheld to compensate. To think that the studio almost cut it from the film... it's why TPTB are often referred to as TIIC.
3. Harvey--It's another classic that I adore. Somewhere, I seem to recall hearing that there was a tv special made of it back in the 1960's, and that when James Stewart reprised his role as Elwood P. Dowd, he made it darker and edgier. Not sure if I heard right or not but I'd love to see it.
4. Captain Blood--One of the very first non-westerns I ever saw as a kid, and I fell instantly in love w/Errol Flynn and pirates in general. (It wasn't until PotC came along w/Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow that I saw another pirate movie that I *liked*.)
5 & 6. Treasure of the Sierra Madre and The Maltese Falcon. This should be self-explanatory. If not... ::sighs:: It's one of those things where if you have to ask the question, you'll never in a million years understand the answer. Btw, the only reason Casablanca is missing from the list is because I already have it. ::beams:: You see? I do have a few things in order.
Ok, enough for now. Time for supper. Back later, maybe.
