Last Night's Storms
May. 30th, 2008 10:59 pmThings turned out ok for me this time but it was wicked out there last night. Remember I posted a couple days ago about taking my little dog to the vet? Well that same road is one of the areas where one of the twisters "followed" the road (Hwy. 14). KS was hit harder though, especially Jewell (sic).
Tornadoes are weird things. I'm not sure if I've ever posted this idea before but I have noticed that tornadoes seem to be drawn to water -- they often follow rivers/streams and target lakes. If I have learned one thing, it is that if there is bad weather and tornadoes are predicted, stay away from water! I'm not sure if there have ever been any scientific studies done on this particular area of tornado behavior or not; I'd really like to find out. Maybe it's just a little thing peculiar to this part of the country, like certain fault lines are in CA. Just a thought.
There was a lot of work being done on the cable today, so I haven't been on hardly at all. Of course, the work didn't affect the tv aspect anyway... XD [Although "Lost" was preempted here because of the storms; it's being rerun tomorrow at 12:30pm. Heh.]
The rest of the weekend is supposed to be nice. I hope so. Though the second storm I heard didn't bother me since my little dog was sound asleep, belly up and snoring. Heee! During the first one she was very anxious though fortunately she doesn't panic or stress very much -- when she does, *then* I know whatever is out there is bad and close enough to be a threat. Years of living here have taught me well: In the car I have dry food/water (though the water doesn't go in until the day of storm warnings) for all of us, and I keep a bag packed for me, a second bag for the furkids, and carriers ready to put the furkids in -- just in case. I make sure my purse (which does not hold the kitchen sink, btw) has my meds, money and keys as well as a change of clothes and my cell phone cord.
Ok, time to post this and maybe take a nap.
