[Note: The following musings will probably make sense only to my hockey sibs, so feel free to skip this part.] Arguably, he changed the game more than any other player, even more than Gretzky, with his scoring ability (two scoring titles) and his ability to make plays from the blue line. It makes you wonder what he might have accomplished if he had been born later and thus able to take advantage of current knee surgeries that are a hell of a lot more spohisticated than what was available in the 1970's. I'm pretty sure he had the will to play but the times were against him. (Bad knees, bone rubbing on bone--hmmmmm, sounds like someone else we all know doesn't it? Hint: Detroit captain, #19... three guesses and if you don't get it right the first try, well that's just sad.) There ought to be an AU fic in here; if anyone knows of one that's been written, please let me know.
