Got Me Good
May. 28th, 2006 12:31 pmYeah, I'm still as fascinated as ever w/*that* movie. It kinda surprises me in some ways, usually films wear off after awhile. But this one hasn't yet. Maybe it's because I know these guys. They're, well, familiar. I understand them--who they are, where they're from. Suddenly I realise that a lot of things from my own childhood make sense. Things I sort-of knew but didn't know how to articulate them. It's also awakening my latent sense of activism. When I was growing up, some of the earliest records I ever heard were the old folk songs, the ones by Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie, etc. that were heavily laced w/protest songs. By the time I was in junior high I'd already read books like "To Kill A Mockingbird", "Letters From A Birmingham Jail" and others. It occurs to me that nearly every book I ever read and *liked* has now (or in the past) been a *banned* book. And that was before I even realised that books were banned. No, I don't have a point to this and I don't know where I'm going with it either. Not yet. But maybe soon.
