Day 7
In your own space, create a fanwork. A drabble, a ficlet, a podfic, or an icon, art or meta or a rec list. A picspam. Something.
Here is a little snippet that may or may not grow into something more. We'll see. It's not from Tolkien for a change but rather MCU (pre-teen Thor and Loki, very gen.) If you decide to read, I hope you enjoy.
As always, when Thor was around, things did not quite go as Loki planned them.
*
After several unauthorized visits to Midgard, the Allfather had told Loki that he could not visit again until the humans had discovered the concept of "E = mc2."
Loki had been certain he would be able to visit in less than a year, for even Thor had learned "E = mc2" when they were in cradle school, so he had agreed readily. But he was horrified when Odin gently informed him that the discovery would not be for nearly a millennia. Loki had promised though and he meant to keep that promise.
However, the Allfather had not put any restrictions on his reading material and thus Loki had been well-entertained by the many stories he found in their manuscripts, imported by the very cautious use of magic from certain Elven merchants. Recently though, there had been a surprising increase in his books due to the invention of something called "the printing press" and Loki was trying to figure out how to inform Odin of this development without letting him know just how Loki had learned of it.
But today Loki was working on a project for his next class. Each student had been assigned to create an animal that was not native to Asgard. Many had chosen from the familiar beasts from the realms who were formally allied with Asgard. Instead, Loki had decided he would surprise them all with a rare beast from Midgard -- a unicorn.
Loki was just readying the final touches on the spell (he had already tried an illusory spell to see how it looked) and began to cast it when the door to his study banged open.
"Loki," Thor yelled, "you..."
Startled, Loki whirled to face the door and in doing so, cast the spell directly on Thor -- who promptly disappeared in a puff of smoke.
"Oh no." Loki moaned, trying to clear the air by throwing open the balcony doors. "Thor, where are you?"
A distraught whinny and the sound of hooves sliding on the marble floor confirmed his worst fear. He turned around to see a very young unicorn with a coat of gold and mane and tail of silver. As the leggy colt tried to balance on very shaky legs (which were not helped by the lack of rugs on the floor) and Loki noticed something else -- it was trying to use its small, underdeveloped wings to help keep from crashing to the floor. Loki automatically conjured some empty feed sacks for the little colt to stand on, hoping to calm it.
"Thor, is that really you?"
The colt rolled its eyes before leaning forward to bite Loki's upper arm.
"Ouch! That hurt!" Loki glared at Thor, who promptly pinned his ears back. Loki promptly teleported across the room to avoid another bite.
So, not just a unicorn but one that was crossed with the famed winged steeds of the Valkyries. Loki felt a massive headache coming on, and one that was not helped by the sudden chiming of
the dinner bell.
"Well, here's another fine mess you've gotten me into," Loki muttered as he stared at Thor-the-colt.
