Ideas For Relocating

I've been thinking about where I would like to relocate. Here are my main requirements:

1) *Airport*
2) City mass transit--bus, train, whatever
3) College and/or university
4) Hockey team (doesn't have to be the N, but it'd help)
5) Not too far south--the KS/OK border would be about it. I don't handle heat very well. I'm not overly fond of cold either but I can deal w/it easier.
6) *Not Florida*. No way. Swamps, alligators and monster-sized creepy-crawlies are not a selling point. (Besides, accurate gossip indicates that FL is highly favored by the ex-from-hell.)
7) Movie theatre
8) Used book store (No way am I gonna pay full-price for books. No way.)

Most cities suggested by family/friends are around the Great Lakes: Milwaukee, Chicago, Detroit. I think I've pretty well jinxed Detroit; any suggestions who should be next? I pity Chicago--between the Cubs and the Hawks... need I say more? Otoh, my support of said teams just might lessen the jinx that's on 'em. Face it, they can't suck much worse. Or can they? (I need to concentrate on NYankees and see what happens to them.) Comments welcomed.

Lansing/East Lansing.

There's the Spartans, the Red Wings. There's mass transit. There's Michigan State University. It's not Florida. There's a theatre and a mall. And there's a used book store across from the main part of MSU Campus that I believe is two floors.
And there's the Lansing airstrip and the Detroit airport.

Hmmmm, okay. What else can you tell me? Like what neighborhoods/areas to avoid? (I have an unerring instinct for places that no sane person would go near.)

Yeah, Florida was probably created by the Devil, I have to visit there soon.

Only cities I know are Baltimore and DC, and they meet your requirements *L*

What can you tell me about Baltimore? I'm afraid that DC has too much weird karma (not to mention it feels more and more... yucky.)

Well, I don't really know too much about Baltimore; most of my time spent in the city has been at Hopkins (excellent place if you might be dying, awesome hospitals, I was always impressed with how many out-of-state tags there were in the parking garages; oddly they didn't fix me). My mom's side of the family is from there. My grandmother is always saying that Baltimore and its suburbs are being "invaded" by poor African Americans, which is probably true considering that all the middle class Baltimore people seem to be moving up to my neck of the woods. But, I really don't know. If you have specific questions or just want me to, I can ask my mom or any other relatives, they'd definitely have a better idea than me, lol.

Well, the important stuff first. Like if they have a hockey team, is it AHL or college; if not, who's the closest team? Are there any ice rinks? And so on, and so forth. [G] Priorities, y'know.

There are a few rinks in Baltimore, and the best one in Maryland (or so it's advertised) is real close. University of Maryland in Baltimore has a hockey team, not sure which division they are or how good they are, but something's always better than nothing. DC has the Caps, which is a train ride or two away. There's a women's team in Baltimore, there's a women's league here in the midatlantic. I was googling around and it seems like there's more hockey here than I had originally thought. But, then again, there used to be a minor league team there, and they were close to getting an NHL team once upon a time.
