Ok, so after My Banking Adventure, I felt really foolish. Stoopid, even. So today one of the local church youth groups held a bake sale. Since I am always on the lookout for sweets that I don't have to bake (namely because I nibble way too much), I went down there. Picked up a few things, all non-chocolate because of the furkids, and went to pay the kids who were at the table. The total was a whopping $3.50. I gave them a $5 bill. Sadly, it took them *way* too long to figure out the total -- and as for the change? They finally had to get one of their moms to figure it out -- which she did by subtracting *on a piece of paper*! ::facepalm:: I feel so terribly, terribly old. I mean, how hard is it to count back change anyway? All they needed to do was give me $1.50 -- just say: "Total is $3.50, out of $5, so fifty cents makes $4, and $1 makes it $5."

Now I'll admit that I've pretty much gotten used to cashiers reading off the change from the printout and just giving me $$ w/o counting back (with very rare exceptions) because doing anything else seems to totally throw them off balance. But these kids were probably 9 or 10 and they should have been able to figure that easy enough since there was no crowd to throw them off or make them nervous. *SIGH* Like I said before, I feel so terribly terribly old.
