Not A Good Week
Leaving aside the national and international news, this has been a bad week for me personally.
Most of you know I live in a very small town (or village) where basically everyone knows everyone, grew up knowing their kids -- and are often distantly related in some way to a lot more people. And if not related, then the families are close in the way that certain rural and/or isolated communities tend to be. More of a "Mayberry" vibe than anything else, y'know?
Earlier today, I posted on FB that there had been three deaths in the past week and all three funerals are scheduled for Monday. One in the morning, two in the afternoon -- at the same time, in different churches.
A few hours ago, I learned of yet another death. (That funeral is scheduled for next Saturday, I think.)
Three of the people were friends of my mom and dad, the fourth was a guy I knew from high school.
I was counting up the number of local deaths this year (either actual residents or those with very close family ties) and the total is 25. In a little town of less than 1000 people, that's a surprisingly high number (or so it seems to me.) And yes, a lot of them are much older people, usually late 80's on... but still.
So if you don't see me around much in the next few days or if I am late responding to comments, etc., that is why.
