Iz Ded
Special thank you to one of my hockey sibs, who alerted me to this little gem.
Oh, sports! I think I need to make a pilgrimage to this NYC sports bar, because -- well, just because. If anyone doesn't think there is much hidden subtext in sports, check this out -- though if you don't know hockey, it won't be nearly as funny. For those of you who do though... XD
"Even in the unisex bathroom, a photograph depicts the retired hockey players Brendan Shanahan and Steve Yzerman costumed as Batman and Robin on Halloween."
I have included the full article under the link cut.

Superbowl Question
If you're in the U.S., will you watch all or part of the Superbowl? Do you have a favorite team? If you're not American, what do you think about Superbowl Sunday?
--I watch for one reason, and one reason only: the Budweiser Clydesdales. I wait all year long just to see their commercial.

Checking In -- and A New Word
Yes, I am still here and yes, I still have intermittent internet access. Right now I am so far behind w/fics and fb that it is pitiful. So, if you're wondering why I have not left fb on a fic (or fics, as the case may be) that's the reason.
This comes from a sports sib. Obviously, we can rest easy that as long as there are professional athletes, there will be *ahem* new and unusual words showing up in the language. This from Joel Zumaya (MLB, Detroit Tigers): When talking about the shoulder tightness he experienced was due to dehydration and ... FATIGUENESS. (I wonder if he studied rocket surgery as well.)
Meanwhile, I am continuing to try and write. Someday I might be able to finish one of my fics again. Keep your fingers crossed ok?
The cousins from LA will be here sometime tomorrow, if my auntie got things right. I am hoping they will want to see TDK because I have minimal interest in any other movie right now. [Though "Mummy 3" does look as if it has some possibilities... oh well, perhaps later. And "Hellboy 2" has the elves...]
The engine tune up cost $140 as opposed to the $60 I thought it would. Actually, I planned for $100 but not the extra $40. F'n hell. That's damn near $300 in less than a week, and not counting the gas either. F'n bloody hell again. Hopefully it won't need anything more for awhile.

Nothing Is Weirder Than Real Life
Ok, so my hockey and sports sibs already know this. (It's the infamous Jason Giambi "good luck charm". ) For those of you who know what this means, feel free to skip. But for my *other* sibs who have not yet had to chlorox their brain cells, it's under the cut.

In Sports News Today
I wake up this morning and what do I hear? Mario. Le Magnifique. It sounds pretty definite that Mario will be retiring, this time for good. I can't help but feel bad because... oh, I dunno... I can't say that I'm a super-fan of his but I was really hoping that he could reach 700. But the health issues he has now (and in the past), in addition to the fact that the Pens are not doing well (gee, do ya think that might qualify as the understatement of the year?) and all of the other issues the Pens organization is having w/the city of Pittsburgh--I guess it was just too much. I wish he could have gone after reaching, say, 700 and end on a more positive note. This time he won't be coming back to play. A lot of the sports pundits are saying if he had been able to play in *this* version of the N, and at his healthiest, that he would be greater than Gretz. Of course, I've heard people debate Gretz's and Mario's stats before and they seem to agree that had Mario stayed healthy, Gretz would have had a real challenger. True, Mario had the advantage of height and arguably strength and meanness but I dunno. (To the pundits, it's all about size, speed and strength. They seem to forget a little thing called "heart".) To me, Gretz is the "perfect" size for a player--6'0, 185-ish... gee, sounds like another player, doesn't it? No, I don't necessarily mean Sid-the-Kid, though he does fit the mold but rather Stevie Y, who often gets overlooked. His numbers were excellent but he was playing at the same time as Gretz and Mario were at their peak and thus was overshadowed. Not that it's bothered Stevie any; in fact, he's got avoiding the press down to an art. So, an era is slowly ending and a new one ready to start. Hull, Mess, Mario... I'm sure there will be more retiring as the year wears on. *SIGH* I will never forgive Moron and Idiot for bringing this about. Never! No season indeed! They will pay--eventually but they *will* pay.
