A Bleak Picture for Non-Digital Independent Theaters: Convert or Die

For almost 90 years, the Bonham Theater has been a center of social life and a place where the tiny town of Fairbury, Neb., (population 3,942) can gather to catch the latest Hollywood movies.

Check It Out

The Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas, may seem far away from Frodo Baggins' epic path to destroy the One Ring. However, the cinema house proudly held its annual 12-hour-long "Lord of the Rings" event this past weekend. On Jan. 9, attendees watched all three films in a row and gorged themselves on a series of seven meals. Why seven? That's how many times a hobbit eats every day, duh.

Though we're a little sad we missed it, our 2012 to-do list now has a front-runner. Those who did attend were treated to a banquet free of cram and petty dwarf roots. Executive chef John Bullington's menu boasted strawberries and cream, grilled New Zealand lamb chops and stewed coney (with taters!). There was also plenty of alcohol for those with a Dwarven tolerance.

Check out a video of the event below.

(No interior shots of the main screen, which is a pity -- it's very cool.)

Yes, I did find a pic of the interior! It's an old b/w one, and you'll have to scroll down the page to see it.
